Hardwick Hall is located at the eastern end of Derbyshire, today not far from the busy M1 motorway. The initials ES which can be seen repeatedly in the towers, indicate that the builder Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury - better known as Bess of Hardwick - did not suffer from false modesty. In the 16th century she was some kind of first lady in Derbyshire.
But despite its historical importance the House is today better known for being Malfoy Manor in the Harry Potter films.
