As stated before, Derbyshire is a long way from the sea. But that was not an obstacle for it to get an own sea town. Matlock Bath has everything else that makes it to one like amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, chip shops and so on. As a replacement for the missing sea the River Derwent has to fill in.
For this reason the town was called "Derbyshire's own Mini-Blackpool" in a travel-guide, which might be a dubious honour. But of course that doesn't keep anybody away, and on weekends in summer the promenade becomes a very busy meeting point for bikers.
