In autumn 2018 the water level of the Rhine was unusually low. This is much rarer than high water, and some say this is coming from the climate change. This low water was a big problem for the cargo ships, as they could only go with a reduced load.
During this low water, which had a level of about 1,4 m. the sand bank on the Baden side was competely dry. This one gets flooded at about 3,3 m and is a good indicator for the water level. You can also see on the left side that the MS Pfaelzerwald is lying rather low at the docking.
