At this Wilhelminian villa in the Marienstrasse No 2 is a plaque outside, which reminds people of Johann Seeger Ruland. He used to have his vinyard here, and the Rulaender grape is named after him.
In the big wine growing region of the Palatinate there is now hardly any Rulaender to find. This heavy, sweet white wine is out of fashion. The same grape is now turned into light and dry Grey Burgundy. The best chances to find a Rulaender wine is in Baden around the Kaiserstuhl, north-west from Freiburg.
By the way, in front of this house, around the corner in the Ludwigstrasse, you can see a holly tree which is an official natural hertitage in Speyer.
